Welcome to the New Dark Ages

History is nothing if not a mad circus, a repeated performance of grotesque charades, and in this particular freakshow: chaos, ignorance, and violence, smeared in the blood of the unfortunate masses. The so-called “Dark Ages was nothing more than the failed experiment of allowing the rich and the Christian zealots to run the show. The results, as we saw then, were disastrous. And here we are again, repeating the same tragic farce.

Let’s paint the picture: you’ve got a powerful elite, largely untouchable, sitting on their thrones of wealth, snorting the powder of their inherited privilege while the rest of the population starves and suffers in the mud below. Then, you throw in a heavy dose of religious fanaticism, and you’ve got yourself the perfect cocktail of oppression. The Church, that ancient institution of superstition and control, worked in tandem with the ruling aristocracy to keep the masses in line. It was the perfect symbiotic relationship: the rich and powerful promised their wealth and influence to the priests, and in return, the priests promised them eternal salvation and the divine right to rule.

But, of course, the inevitable happened. The “good” Christian morals that were supposed to bring light to the world instead plunged Europe into an age of ignorance and brutality.

The people were kept in darkness — literally and figuratively. Science? Suppressed. Art? Condemned. The only thing that flourished in that hellhole of a time were the riches of the few, fattening themselves off the ignorance and misery of the many. The Crusades were launched, not for any noble cause, but for power, money, and land — all while the peasants were shackled by guilt and the terrifying specter of eternal damnation.

And now, as the world stumbles toward another Age of Darkness, we find ourselves once again at the mercy of the same forces — the ultra-rich, cloaked in the same old justifications of divine right and moral righteousness. The parallels are striking, but this time, the consequences could be even more catastrophic. The game hasn’t changed. The players have just adapted. But we know the rules — and we know the outcome. Let the rich and the zealots run the show, and you’re looking at a society that’s about as enlightened as a cave-dwelling Neanderthal holding a cross and wearing a crown.

History is a cruel teacher, and humanity, it seems, has learned nothing. Welcome to the new Dark Ages.

That’s all for now.
